Mobil 1 Oil Filter Failure...... (Long)

Don't want to make this thread any longer than it is already, but I must have missed the point. Is there something wrong with the MOPAR oil filter that I've been using religiously on my 96 GTS racecar for 5 years and 21,000 miles without any problems whatsoever?

Starting order for SCCA Run-Offs at Mid-Ohio - Archer on pole

Rich, thanks in advance for helping me out here. A few questions.... What is the weight requirement for Bobby's Viper, when is the car weighed (before or after the race or qualifying), and is it weighed with or without driver? Also, what restrictions are imposed on the Viper versus the ZO6...

    Brakes (Mov'it)?

Re: Brakes (Mov\'it)? PNUM, I knew I shouldn't have started this. Now, wash out your mouth with soap and water. After your nanny picks you up from day-care, tell her you've been very bad and to expect a call from me. Furthermore, you're grounded and you cannot see Kenny for the rest of this...

    Brakes (Mov'it)?

Re: Brakes (Mov\'it)? Thank you for your abstinence PNUM. Perhaps you haven't heard about my really trick lap time reduction device. It's been proven to work, even in the highly rigorous environment of a 16-lap race!!! I must warn you that the only time you'll be coming by me at Pahrump is...

    Brakes (Mov'it)?

Re: Brakes (Mov\'it)? Wow, Smacktime....16 laps in 100-degree heat without brake fade. Now there's a true testimony to your depth of experience with this system. I bet you even have a few more track events under your belt by now! I thought this thread started by someone asking a simple...

    Brakes (Mov'it)?

Re: Brakes (Mov\'it)? The Desert Venom Race Team has been running the brake system from Mov'it since 1998. It's also known as the Porsche "Big Red" system. We have had great experience with the system and highly recommend it (btw, we are not sponsored by Mov'it, nor do we receive endorsement...

Report of Chrysler / Oreca Divorce

The current Autoweek magazine reports that Chrysler has abandoned further development of its Le Mans prototype. It's relationship with Team Oreca is apparently over, although Oreca will continue to race at Le Mans, presumably with a competitor. Engine builder, John Caldwell, is quoted as...

    Viper Days Matrix...

Gentlemen, An enormous amount of thought went into the current points system and the calculations are extremely involved! If you will please take the time to study the system and do some examples to see what the results are, I believe you will come to the following conclusion: The system...

    Track Suspension Setup Considerations......

I think Bob's summary is excellent. This is a really fun subject and very involved. A quick and easy prescription for a good track set-up is very difficult. There are too many variables to list, but one of the critical components is the driver. As a supplement to what Bob said, here are some...

    Brake question???

I'm not familiar with the pads you are using, but the symptoms make it sound like a race pad. Until you get race pads good and hot, they won't stop your car. Street pads are the opposite... once you get them good and hot, they won't stop your car.

    Wing debate

Woody is pretty much spot-on. I rented a track in Tucson to test drag and downforce on one of the popular rear wings. All tests were done at 100 MPH as a reference point. Both drag and downforce can then be calculated at any other speed since they both vary precisely with square of speed...

The two definitions of 'moderate' (a novel, but a good read)

Re: The two definitions of \'moderate\' (a novel, but a good read) Chris, I couldn't agree with you more. I believe the "silent majority" of VCA members truly appreciate your philosophy and tone. I thank you and the many other volunteers for trying to improve the quality of our web site...

DC Bring Back the Sports Car Racing Program!

I agree and disagree. Dodge is probably getting some good payback from NASCAR racing fans, although it's hard to believe they can fully recover the cost of their investment. NASCAR fans really do support the companies involved in NASCAR racing. I attended the NASCAR race at Sears Point and...

Horsepower / Per Weight / Anyone Know?

In the Viper Days wheel to wheel race series, a factor of 7.5 pounds per horsepower is used to penalize Vipers that produce excessive horsepower on the chassis dyno. You can derive this figure by using published weight of 3,375 pounds and dividing by published horsepower of 450.

ARCHER PILOTS HIS T1 VIPER TO ANOTHER VICTORY AT TWS

Paul, I hope you can attend the VCA Wsetern Rendevous in Monterey on June 22-24. Everyone does the autocross in the same factory stock 2001 GTS provided by Dodge. You can even go head to head with the coneheads from No. Cal. The top 2 drivers will compete against Team Viper later in the year...

I changed my seats, now I don't fit in the car

Re: I changed my seats, now I don\'t fit in the car I too have a Sparco Pro 2000. I removed the padding from the bottom of the seat and gained a couple inches of headroom. It also gives you better feel of the car, although you may not like the look for street driving.

    Installing Eibach springs. Need advice

Be advised that when you change ride heights, you are also changing the alignment, roll centers, handling characteristics and aerodynamic behavior of your car. I would definitely not suggest lowering your car 1/2" in the front and 1" in the rear. This will completely eliminate the factory...

    StopTech brakes and Partsrack

Chuck, Several years ago it was necessary for Viper owners to experiment with different brake upgrade packages because noone had been road racing their Viper long enough to thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of the many new systems brought to market. Fortunately for you, there is no...

Viper Days Road America/ Mopar Nationals

Dave, I realize the term "serious" is a relative term, however, no serious racer in Viper Days is going to miss the event at Road America. Many western drivers will be making the trek to Elkhart Lake, WI to race on "THE" best track in North America. Californians may find it hard to believe...

Nix the Porterfield R4S pads. You will destroy them on the track and end your weekend on a sour note. You need the R4R pads.

    Hoosier pressure recommendations?

The purpose of adjusting air pressure is to properly shape the footprint (contact patch) of the tire against the road. As Deano points out, the tire pyrometer is the only legitimate tol to determine correctness of air pressures for each car and driver. Friction between the tire and road...
